Viewers Control Shovel Knight on TikTok LIVE: Complete Tutorial for Beginners
Turn Shovel of Hope into a shared treasure hunt. Viewers can nudge the knight, swing the shovel or request a downward bounce, while you manage the route and decide which checkpoints are worth keeping.

Before playing Shovel Knight with viewers
Choose single-player Shovel of Hope for these mappings. Other campaigns have different moves, and co-op adds another player to the consequences. Keep manual control available for narrow platforms and pause gift events while explaining a checkpoint decision.
Shovel Knight: default PC keys
Shovel Knight's default PC keyboard layout uses W for up, climbing and talking, A for left, S for down and Shovel Drop in the air, D for right, J for shovel attack and K or Space for jump. W + J uses an equipped relic. These mappings target Shovel of Hope; check your own keybinds in the game's settings before following them.

Gift-to-key starter mapping
Try these starting settings for Shovel Knight; choose gifts available to your audience.
| Gift example | Key and action | Hold duration (ms) | TikFinity screen |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rose | A: move left | 80 | 2: horizontal directions |
| Ice Cream | D: move right | 80 | 2: horizontal directions |
| Finger Heart | W: up / climb / talk | 100 | 3: vertical directions |
| Shovel-drop gift | S: down / Shovel Drop when airborne | 60 | 3: vertical directions |
| GG | K: jump (Space is an alternative) | 90 | 1: jump and attack |
| Tiny Diny | J: shovel attack / dig | 60 | 1: jump and attack |
| Optional larger gift on safe ground | W + J: equipped relic | 60 | 4: relic chord |
Why these durations suit Shovel Knight
An 80 ms lateral tap leaves room to correct the approach to a narrow landing. Start jump at 90 ms, then tune it on a broad platform rather than over a pit. The 60 ms S action initiates Shovel Drop while airborne; it does not schedule a bounce or cancel the descent on release. There is no standard dash to map, so movement and jump overlap determine the approach. The relic chord briefly presses W and J together and still needs magic and an equipped relic.
Connect TikFinity to Shovel Knight
- Run TikFinity Desktop on Windows beside Shovel Knight. Finish Setup and TikTok login with the browser dashboard closed. In LIVE Studio or OBS, capture the game and leave enough room below it for the shovel-drop legend.
- Visit Actions & Events, create Jump K and choose Simulate keystrokes. Enable game compatibility mode and complete any required install. Use a 90 ms hold, remembering 1,000 ms = 1 second. Duplicate this action for A, D, W, S and J, applying the separate values in the mapping table.
- Assign jump and attack to screen 1, left/right to screen 2 and up/down to screen 3. Each screen is a queue: separating directions from jump lets the knight move during take-off. Keep the optional W + J relic on screen 4, with both keys selected in one action. Add the screen URLs as Link sources in LIVE Studio or Browser sources in OBS.
- Use Sending a specific gift to connect each event to its action. Begin with Repeat with gift combos off for Shovel Drop and relics, a small queue and Skip on next action off. Temporarily disable the W and J events if you offer a relic gift, so independent gifts do not interfere with its chord.
- Stand on a broad platform, press the play icon for Jump K and focus the game within 5 seconds. Try S during a manual jump over solid ground to confirm Shovel Drop. Test a direction plus jump next. Use the action buttons rather than Event Simulator, which does not send the keystrokes.
Shovel Knight stream tips
- You can break many checkpoints for gold, but doing so removes that respawn point. Let the audience vote first, then disable attack gifts until the host has made the choice.
- Make Shovel Drop a named gift viewers can recognise. It needs the knight to be airborne and can bounce from valid targets; sending S on the ground will not manufacture a jump.
- Keep gifts away from pits by pausing direction and drop events before delicate crossings. Delayed viewer inputs are much harder to recover from when there is no floor below.
- Reserve relic gifts for a clear demonstration with enough magic. Tell viewers which relic is equipped, because the same W + J chord changes effect with the loadout.
Frame your Shovel Knight stream
Arrange the CSS WASD diagram beside separate J and K boxes, with S labelled 'Shovel Drop in air'. Give the game capture enough height to show the platform below the knight, and keep the checkpoint and treasure count unobstructed.
The key boxes use CSS, with no game artwork. Alert display time controls alerts and TTS separately from key holds.
Shovel Knight FAQ
Why does the shovel-drop gift do nothing on the ground?
S becomes Shovel Drop while airborne. Jump first, then send the drop action over solid ground or a suitable bounce target.
Should chat break every checkpoint for treasure?
Keep that decision deliberate. Gold is a reward, but breaking a checkpoint sacrifices the nearby respawn and can make the next failure more costly.
Will this work for every Shovel Knight campaign?
This guide describes single-player Shovel of Hope. Check the chosen campaign's controls and abilities before reusing its gift legend.
